The confirmed Man Utd training squad to face Lyon in the Europa League.

Joshua Zirkzee did not take part in Manchester United training ahead of their crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon. The Dutch forward suffered a hamstring injury during the weekend defeat to Newcastle and could be ruled out for the remainder of the season with the issue.

It is a huge blow to head coach Ruben Amorim, who is set to have just one senior striker available for the upcoming clash with Lyon. There was also another injury absentee after defender Ayden Heaven missed the session due to a 'small setback'. The 18-year-old had only returned from injury at the weekend but could now miss the second leg on Thursday night.

Matthijs de Ligt is still sidelined after he suffered an injury in the recent defeat to Nottingham Forest, but Jonny Evans was spotted taking part in the training session at Carrington on Wednesday lunchtime. Here is the early team news.

Manchester United confirmed training squad vs Lyon

Manchester United are set to be without Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven for their Europa League second leg against Lyon on Thursday night. Toby Collyer, Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez are the only other injury absentees, but Jonny Evans will be available for selection after he took part in their training session on Wednesday lunchtime.

There was plenty of focus on the goalkeeping department at Carrington, with Andre Onana in contention to start the match after he was rested for the weekend defeat at Newcastle. The 29-year-old had a horror show during the first leg a week ago and was at fault for both of the Lyon goals in the 2-2 draw.

In terms of other team news, academy quartet Godwill Kukonki, Jaydan Kamason, Jack Moorhouse and Gabriele Biancheri all took part in the session. Chido Obi is ineligible to feature in the Europa League this season. Amad took part in an individual training session away from the main group as he nears a return from injury.
