Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says his team must ‘get up and fight again’ after being knocked out cold in their most recent 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
It was the latest in a long line of bad results for the 13-time Premier League winners, which marked Newcastle’s first league double over the Red Devils since 1931. It was United’s 14th defeat of the season - their most since 1989/1990 and now means that over the last 12 years the club has lost more times than they did during 26 years of management under Alex Ferguson.

Hide AdIt has been the worst campaign in recent years for United and they are now truly in last chance saloon for European qualification this season, with their hopes resting entitlerly on their progress in the Europa League this term.
They play host to seven-time French champions Lyon in a huge game which is evenly poised after a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Groupama Stadium. United boss Amorim faces a number of huge decisions for the contest including whether to recall Andre Onana in between the posts or stick by Altay Bayindir after his difficult night in the North East. There’s also a number of key injury decisions for both the Red Devils and Lyon to contend with.
Man Utd injury latest
United are expected to be without 50-time Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt due to a foot injury which he sustained earlier this month. He misses out alongside January addition Ayden Heaven, who is likely to miss out until May with a similar problem.
Veteran Jonny Evans remains on the sidelines with a lower back problem with no return date determined while Argentinian international Lisandro Martinez is not expected to play again this calendar year due to a serious ACL injury.

Hide AdYoungster Tobias Collyer has been one of the few bright sparks to come out of the campaign, but he’s ruled out of this one with a small leg issue.
United’s attack has not been firing on all cylinders this season and Joshua Zirkzee, who enjoyed a solid first half against Newcastle, is not expected to be ready in time after sustaining a thigh injury during his trip to the North East. He joins talented winger Amad Diallo on the sidelines, with the Ivory Coast international most likely returning at the end of May in a costly blow.
Lyon injury news
Ghanian winger Ernest Nuamah is ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious ACL injury sustained in the opening seven minutes of a recent win over Lille. Fellow playmaker Malick Fofana is also sidelined with a knee problem after scoring six in nine games during the competition.
Other than that Lyon should have something close to a clean bill of health as they aim to progress into the semi-final of the competition and stage an upset against the pre-tournament favourites. The French side have never previously won a European honour but have reached the semi-final of both this competition and the Champions League in their recent history.
