Manchester United ace 'suggested' as surprise transfer target for European giants

Manchester United have until the end of the transfer window to conclude any incoming or outgoing bits of business

Barcelona are being linked with a late swoop for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford in this transfer window. According to reporter Albert Fernandez from Spanish news outlet Gol, the La Liga giants are interested in landing the attacker before the deadline next week and he has emerged as a potential option.

Fernandez has taken to X to post: “Info @gol : According to FCB sources, one of the names that Hansi Flick suggested for his only request (a left winger with goals and dribbling ability) was Marcus Rashford. I don't know if there has been any movement.”

Rashford, who is 26-years-old, has been on the books at United for his whole career to date and has been a key player for them over recent years. His contract at Old Trafford expires in June 2028 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon and can wait the right offer to come in for his services. He is valued at £51million on Transfermarkt.

Barcelona could see see him as someone to bolster their attacking options and give them something different on the wing. They would also offer him the chance to play abroad for the first time and experience football in a different country and culture. Hansi Flick has some exciting youngsters at his disposal such as Lamine Yamal, Gavi and Pedri and will be aiming to pip rivals Real Madrid to top spot in this campaign.

Rashford caught United’s eye as a child playing for local team Fletcher Moss Rangers and linked up with his current club in 2005. He has since risen up through their academy ranks and was a regular for various different youth levels as a teenager. The Mancunian made his senior debut in 2016 and hasn’t looked back since.

He has made 404 appearances in all competitions to date and has scored 131 goals, winning the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League along the way. The forward scored a whopping 30 goals during the 2022/23 season but only managed to find the net on eight occasions last term as he looks to find his shooting boost once again.

Rashford has been criticised in the past on social media and said earlier this year: “Listen, I’m not a perfect person. When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first one to put my hand up and say I need to do better . But if you ever question my commitment to Man United that’s when I have to speak up. It’s like someone questioning my entire identity and everything I stand for as a man.

“I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a kid so I could wear this badge. I can take any criticism, I can take any headline. But if you start questioning my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family into it, then I’d ask you simply to have a bit more humanity.”
