Manchester City and Manchester United have some of the biggest wage bills in world football

Manchester United and Manchester City have just a couple of days to complete any transfer business with the January window set to slam shut at 11pm on Monday night.

Both Manchester clubs are back in Premier League action in Sunday after a busy week of European action. United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon before a huge game between Arsenal and City at the Emirates Stadium later in the day. It is a fixture that is set to impact the title race and the battle for the Champions League spots.

Last week, the Deloitte Football Money League for 2025 was published as it revealed the amount of revenue generated by the world’s richest clubs during the 2023/24 season. The report also highlights how much every club has spent in wages with both Manchester clubs featuring high on the list - although neither is in the top three. Below the wage bills of the top 20 richest clubs in the world is detailed and here’s where United and City rank compared to their domestic and European rivals...

Highest wage bills in world football - 2023/24

20 - Maresille: The French outfit's wage expenditure was not available, but the club made €287 million of revenue.

19 - Olympique Lyonnais, €161m / £135m: Les Gones made €264 million of revenue and spent 61% of that on wages.

18 - West Ham, €187m / £157m: The Hammers made €322 million of revenue and spent 58% of that on wages.

17 - AC Milan, €187m / £157m: The Serie A giants made €398 million of revenue and spent 47% of that on wages.

16 - Inter Milan, €231m / £194m: Internazionale made €391 million of revenue and spent 59% of that on wages.

15 - Newcastle United, €253m / £212m: The Magpies made €372 million of revenue and spent 68% of that on wages.

11 - Borussia Dortmund, €267m / £224m: The Bundesliga club made €514 million of revenue and spent 52% of that on wages.

10 - Aston Villa, €298m / £250m: The Villains made €310 million of revenue and spent 96% of that on wages.
