Man Utd's Antony 'transfer stance' detailed amid Saudi Pro League links

The £86million winger has been linked with a move away from Man Utd this month.

Antony has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this month but recent reports suggest concrete offers are yet to arrive at Manchester United.

It was claimed earlier this week that United had 'offered' Antony and Jadon Sancho to clubs in the Saudi Pro League in a bid to recoup a proportion of the money spent on the underperforming pair. They were said to want around £50m for each winger, which would represent a significant loss on the £159m spent.

But Fabrizio Romano has since cleared up the situation, suggesting there is no concrete interest as of yet. But the transfer expert did suggest that things could change rather quickly.

“Some fans have asked me about stories involving Antony being offered to Saudi clubs," he told CaughtOffside. "We had similar reports about Brazil in the recent past, which were denied. Same with these ones.

“I’m not aware of United offering Antony to any other clubs, and don’t have concrete info on Antony leaving now. Let’s see if bids will come in the next weeks or in the summer, but it’s very quiet so far.”

Antony is under increasing pressure to perform at United, following what has been a woeful first-half of his second season at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old has been distracted by allegations of abuse made against him in Brazil - claims he strongly denies - but is yet to register a single goal or assist from 22 appearances across all competitions.

Manager Erik ten Hag has preferred to use one of Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho on their unnatural side at times and, speaking in January, urged Antony to 'do better'.

“I think it’s very simple,” Ten Hag said. “His off-field issues stop him playing [well]. First year was OK, the pre-season [of this term] was very OK, first four games was very good.

"I’ve seen the game against Spurs back [a 2-0 loss in August] and he played a very good game but from the moment he was out and then he came back and didn’t deliver the performance you should expect from him and he can do so much better.”
