Manchester United will take their first steps to what they hope will be a successful season when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The visitors will arrive at Old Trafford with a new manager in charge after former Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil was confirmed as successor to Julen Lopetegui following the latter’s departure last week.

For United, there will be new faces on show after Erik Ten Hag continued to mould his squad ahead of his second season in charge of the Red Devils. His first season ended with major silverware in the form of the Carabao Cup and a return to the Champions League and there are high hopes that impressive return can be built upon over the coming nine months.

With just hours to go until the 13-time Premier League champions get their league season underway, ManchesterWorld gives you all you need to know ahead of the big kick-off.

Where and when will the game take place?

It wasn’t all good news for Erik Ten Hag after his most recent addition - Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund - picked up an injury that means he must wait to make his Red Devils bow. Also ruled out are goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson, defender Tyrell Malacia, striker Anthony Martial and young duo Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo.

Wolves have just one injury doubt as they prepare to hand a late fitness test to Matheus Cunha. Republic of Ireland international Matt Doherty could make the first start of his second spell with the club after returning to Molineux following a spell with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

What have both managers said about the game?

United manager Ten Hag said: “First, you never can compare seasons with each other but I think we are much further than last season, but you can never compare games. Different opponents, we had a very good pre-season, our fitness levels are very good, we are on really good levels and I think also our performance levels during pre-season were on a high level.

“We are very confident but also I want to mention pre-season doesn’t say anything, it’s friendly football. Though I never take a game as a friendly, it’s friendly in the sense of going. In the league, going for the points it’s a different approach for both teams. We are ready to go for the fight, the team is really energetic and we worked really good for pre-season and we go for it.”

New Wolves manager O’Neil: “They’re a good side, a very good side, and I watched a fair bit of them in pre-season, but I’ve still got more to do. They’ve had some good performances and some fantastic players, and I think they will be better than they were last season from what I’ve seen, so it’s going to be a big challenge.

“The big challenge for me will be that every other club in the league have been working towards this game for six weeks in a certain way and we’ve had a very different pre-season to that and have been working in a different way until four or five days to go. But there are no excuses in there and I’m aware we have a Premier League game on Monday, so I want to make sure the group is as ready as we can be.”

Where and when will the game be broadcast live?

You can watch the game live on Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event, with coverage getting underway at 6:30pm. Sky Sports customers can live stream the game via the Sky Go app on a variety of devices including most smartphones and tablets as part of their subscription.
