Manchester United have been encouraged to bring Wilfried Zaha back to Old Trafford as the end of his contract looms. The 30-year-old left the Red Devils permanently eight years ago.

Zaha had spent most of his career with Crystal Palace before United snapped him up for £10 million in 2013. After a loan spell with the Eagles, the forward made his Premier League debut later that year but failed to score a single goal for United and soon found himself back at Selhurst Park.

The Ivory Coast international has since been Palace’s main man and is enjoying another superb campaign under Patrick Vieira, netting six goals and providing two assists this term. With Zaha’s contract coming to an end in the summer, the 30-year-old is looking increasingly likely to leave the club for a second time.

Despite his disappointing stint with United, former defender Danny Simpson has urged the club to consider bringing Zaha back this summer. Speaking to Stadium Astro, Simpson said: “He can go wherever he wants, especially on a free contract. I think Wilf [Zaha] plays better when he is the main man.

“He came to Man Utd. I know he was a lot younger, but if he goes to another top-four or top-six team, then he’s not going to be the main man, so it will be interesting to see where he goes. I think someone like Liverpool could do with him at the moment because it’s not happening for them.

“I would bring him back here [Old Trafford]. You have Marcus Rashford as a number nine and Wilfried on the left. That’s some firepower as well.”

Erik ten Hag welcomed Wout Weghorst to the club last month as they looked to bring in a new striker following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. However the Dutchman is only on loan and the Red Devils will need to add to their attack once again at the end of the season. The potential arrival of Zaha would mean he would be competing with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial and Antony if Rashford moved into the middle.
