Reported Manchester United transfer target Diogo Costa has hit back at transfer links ahead of the summer window.

United look as though they will keep hold of David De Gea ahead of next season, reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with the Spaniard. De Gea’s current deal expires this summer, but Erik ten Hag is set to keep the experienced keeper around, albeit on a lower wage.

Despite that, there has been talk of the Red Devils signing another goalkeeper, and they just might if Dean Henderson winds up moving on for good following a loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

The question is whether United will go out and sign a number two or whether they will sign a starting calibre goalkeeper who can compete with De Gea for the number one spot. Recent reports have suggested the latter, with Porto goalkeeper Costa linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Portugal international is said to have a release clause north of £50million, and you can bet Porto will demand that fee for their starting goalkeeper, who is also number one for his country. It would be a surprise to see United spend so much on a goalkeeper if they are going to keep De Gea, and Costa himself has poured cold water on the links after winning the Portuguese cup with Porto last weekend.

The highly-rated stopper said: “Man United deal? This is the internet. I love Porto — it’s the club of my life. I would give my life for it”

Costa has been with Porto he was 12 years of age, progressing through the club’s academy and B team before making his first-team debut in 2019. He has since made 90 league appearances, winning two league titles, while also representing Portugal 12 times since 2021.
