Man Utd target poised for 'medical' this week after 'full agreement' reached

Manchester United have the chance to bring in more players this summer

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Arsenal prospect Chido Obi-Martin. According to a report by Football Insider, the player is ‘set’ to have a medical this week after a ‘full agreement’ was reached for his signature, despite interest from Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils are poised to land the teenager as they prepare for the upcoming 2024/25 Premier League season. First up for them is a home clash against Fulham on Friday 16th August following their Community Shield match against Manchester City.

United could see Obi-Martin as one for the future. At the age of 16, he is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He will initially link up with the youth set-up at Old Trafford. The prodigy will then look to show what he can do and break into the senior picture down the line.

Obi-Martin was born in Glostrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, the Danish capital, which has a population of 23,500. The attacker stands at 6ft 2inc and started his career in the academies of local side Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and FC Copenhagen.

He moved over to England as a child and linked up with Arsenal when he was 14. The Denmark youth international has since been prolific for the Gunners’ youth sides. The forward broke into their Under-18’s at the age of just 15 and has since scored 32 goals in 21 competitive games, as well as chipping in with three assists. He also has featured for the Under-21’s on two occasions despite his tender age.

Losing Obi-Martin will be a big blow to Arsenal as they would have had high hopes for him. Their loss will be United’s gain though as they look to get a deal over the line. Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Ajax and Monaco have also looked at him recently, as per Teamtalk.

He has said: “I really like Rasmus Hojlund. He is strong and powerful, so you can learn a lot from him. At the start, he didn’t score that much for United, but now he has really found his form.

“He is left-footed, I am right-footed, but we can both score goals. I have trained six times with the first team, so we (with Mikel Arteta) have talked, but it has not been a big deal. He just praises me all the time and says nice things, so it’s very nice. Of course it makes me proud.”

He added: “I hope to be able to play in the Danish national team for a long time, so I hope it’s just Denmark. My dream is to win big things, for a long time I have dreamed of winning the European Championship or World Cup with Denmark, so it will be great.”

Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen’s head of children’s football Anders Lange has said: “He was a very tall, physical and mature young boy early on. He started playing one and two years up when he was 10 or 11 because he was very good and very physically mature.

“We had a team in the age group above him who didn’t always win their games. We took Chido up to play for them when he was 12 and in his first game in the group above, they won 10-0 and he scored seven goals.”
