Erik ten Hag’s side will be aiming to finish higher up next time around. Here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours...

Midfielder latest

United ‘remain keen’ on signing PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer, according to the Daily Mail. They may need to sell either Scott McTominay or Casemiro first to raise the funds needed to bring the Ligue 1 ace over to England.

McTominay is on the radar of Fulham, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in this window. He is out of contract next year and the Red Devils will listen to offers in the region of £25million and £30million.

If they were to sell the Scotland international, the door could open for Ugarte to move in as his replacement. The 23-year-old moved to France last year and has since made 37 appearances in all competitions.

The Uruguay international started his career at Fenix in his native country before moving over to Europe. He had spells in Portugal at Famalicão and Sporting Lisbon before PSG swooped in 12 months ago.

His future in Paris is up in the air right now though and he may well depart before the deadline later this month. The Red Devils interested in landing him but time will tell whether he can strike an agreement.

Boss shares update

Ten Hag has said United are in the hunt for more new faces. They were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in their latest friendly outing in America.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Dutchman has said: “You have to be there aligned and that we want to be proactive and we want to attract players who can execute our game model. And so yeah, from profiling we get the right players and that's a daily process. It's a continued process as well in the window, but also in between the windows. But yeah, that is an area that has to grow.

“We are always looking for having squad depth cover for all the positions as possible double, because we know we go into the season and it's a survival of the fittest. But it needs to be the right player and finance, FFP all fits. These things we have to take into mind otherwise we can't bring a good squad on the pitch.”

He added: “We have a clear plan. We know what to do. Injuries are part of the process. You can't avoid it because top football, you go intense and it'll happen. Then you need a squad who can cover this.”

United face Manchester City in the Community Shield next weekend. They beat their rivals in last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

The Red Devils then lock horns with Fulham in their opening fixture as they look to start with a win in front of their own fans. They then have clashes against Brighton and Hove Albion, Liverpool and Southampton.
