Manchester United remain in the takeover process after months of discussions.

United fans have been asking for a takeover for some time, and during the season just gone, the Glazers announced they would grant their wish by seeking fresh investment. Since then, it has been made clear that the new investing party will take majority control, although it’s not clear whether the Glazers will leave completely or not.

At this point, there are two main bidders, with Jim Ratcliffe battling Sheikh Jassim, and here we round up all the latest surrounding the possible Old Trafford takeover.

Ferdinand claims

Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about the United takeover, claiming he has some new information from a ‘source’.

“I was talking to (David) Ornstein as well. Man he’s got good knowledge as well but we’ve got good sources so,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five Podcast.

“I had some news from a very good source, my great source at Manchester United. Things were running quite smoothly and it was going down the right path but then obviously [it hit a bump]. I think the big issue is, when you’re dealing with a group of people rather than an individual, it makes things very complex and difficult at times. You’re not dealing with one individual with the Glazers – I think Jim Ratcliffe came out and said it.”

Jassim ‘confident’

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Sheikh Jassim’s team feel ‘confident’ in completing a purchase of United.

“Still, we have the same situation where Nine Two Foundation and INEOS are in the process,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“Maybe the only difference at this point is that there’s a real feeling on the Qatar side, that it will now be a case of them being successful, or a no sale, possibly with some kind of financing baked in.”

Qatari claims

Qatari journalist Mohammed Alkaabi claims to know something of the Qatari bid to buy United.

He told Ferdinand on Twitter: “I told you 1000 times, your friends, the Glazers, are the ones who manipulate the offer presented every time, with you and the great Manchester United fans. They only care about money, and this greed is the one that disrupts the deal over and over again.”
