Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s backroom staff have had a busy summer building a squad they hope can improve on last season’s third-place finish in the Premier League.

The Red Devils started slowly in the 2022 summer window, and it was a similar story this year, with no arrivals or major departures in June. It took until 5 July for the first arrival to be announced, while confirmation that David de Gea had permanently departed followed a few days later.

Since then, there has been one more major signing from the club, and a number of youth-team players have also moved on. Below, we’ve rounded up every transfer so far this summer for the Red Devils.

Incomings

Mount’s deal was completed before the players returned to pre-season training, with a £55m fee agreed initially, and a further £5m to potentially be paid at a later date. On 20 July, Andre Onana also joined from Ajax in a transfer worth £44m, and an additional £3.5m.

There has been one other significant arrival, with former defender Jonny Evans signing a short-term deal. The player had been training at Carrington after his contract expired at Leicester City, and he has been brought in to help offer defensive cover over pre-season, with the possibility of that turning into a longer-term deal.

Overall spending

So far, United have shelved out £99m on summer transfers, with a potential £8.5m to be added at a later date. The Red Devils remain hopeful of completing further transfers, but will need to sell players in order to finance those deals.

So far, the big departure from Old Trafford is that of De Gea, who moved on after 12 years at the club. He and United couldn’t agree on the terms of a new contract, meaning the goalkeeper was allowed to walk away for free.

So too, did the long-serving Phil Jones, while Axel Tuanzebe also saw his contract expire at the beginning of the summer. Zidane Iqbal was another who moved on and joined Dutch side Utrecht. He was followed out the door by youth-team players Ethan Galbraith and Ethan Laird, who agreed moves to the Championship and League One respectively.
