Jonny Evans has been included in Manchester United's squad to face Lyon on Wednesday after the club announced the centre-back has signed a short-term deal to help cover with two defensive injuries.

Evans, who left United in 2015, has been training with the club since his contract expired at recently relegated Leicester City. In a statement on their website, United said Evans has been 'training with the Under-21s whilst considering his options'.

Evans will also travel to the America for the club's US tour, although the Northern Irishman will fly to San Diego with the youth-team squad, while the first-team group are in New York where they will face Arsenal this Saturday. Evans' shock inclusion comes after United confirmed that Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett have both picked up injuries that will rule them for all of the matches in Scotland and America.

United also revealed that the full squad departing for matches in the States against Arsenal, Wrexham, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, will be confirmed at a later date.

As for the group announced to take on Lyon in Edinburgh, Fred and Donny van de Beek were notable inclusions after both were ruled out of the first pre-season clash against Leeds United last week. Antony was also named in the squad and could play against the Ligue 1 side.

However, Dean Henderson, who is expected to complete a move soon to Nottingham Forest, was omitted once again. Tom Heaton played in goal last week but wasn't among the three goalkeepers named in Tuesday's squad, with one of Nathan Bishop, Elyh Harrison and Matej Kovar set to start in the Scottish capital. Eric Bailly and Alex Telles also haven't been selected.
