Manchester United star Antony has led tributes to Serbian footballer Dusan Tadic as the midfielder announced his departure from Ajax.

The 34-year-old made 241 appearances for the Dutch side since joining in 2018, winning three Eredivisie titles, two KNCB Cups and the Johan Cruyff Shield across his hugely successful spell.

Tadic scored 105 goals and assisted 112 others while at Ajax, becoming one of the continent's most prolific midfielders and won all those titles under the management of none other than Erik ten Hag, who signed the player from Southampton five years ago.

Last week the star's contract at Ajax was terminated by mutual agreement in a surprise announcement that put clubs looking for a proven midfield star on red alert, including Manchester United.

The Sun and the Daily Express were just two outlets to report that ten Hag was tempted by the idea of bringing Tadic to Old Trafford on a free given the pair's relationship and the player's European quality.

Indeed, ten Hag wasn't the only man at United harbouring a love for the star with Antony labelling the star a 'legend' for all that he had achieved at Ajax - the Brazilian played with the Serb during his time at the Dutch side between 2020 and 2022.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tadic wrote: "As my time at @afcajax comes to an end, my heart is filled with emotions. It has been an amazing journey at this incredible club. Countless memories and achievements that I will forever keep in my heart!

"I am incredibly grateful for the time I've had here and for the opportunity to play the Ajax way of football. The Ajax philosophy has always been and will always be a part of my identity as a player.

"To the wonderful fans, your unwavering support has been inspiring. Your passion has fueled our performances, and I am truly thankful for your incredible dedication. YOU are the reason players can grow and shine at Ajax - you are the heart of Ajax!

"I want to express my gratitude to my teammates throughout the years and the entire Ajax family. The spirit we've shared, both on and off the field, has been truly special. The memories we've created together will forever hold a special place in my heart."

On Sunday, Tadic was back online again and had put any rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford to bed as he confirmed that he had put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Turkish side Fenerbahce.
