United are expected to name a similar squad to the one which played against Leeds in Norway. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Marinez, Jadon Sancho and Mount were among the household names on show, while the highly rated youngsters Alvaro Fernandez, Kobbie Mainoo, Hannibal and Amad also made up the starting XI.
At half-time Ten Hag made 11 changes, and the team in the second period consisted almost entirely of Under-21 players. Will Fish, Rhys Bennett, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Shola Shoretire and Noam Emeran all impressed after the break for the youthful United side.
Wednesday’s game could be slightly different and the more experienced starting XI are expected to play closer to an hour than 45 minutes. Dean Henderson, Fred, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial all missed out through injury against Leeds and could be involved in Scotland. Meanwhile, 17 players who participated in June’s international fixtures will be back in training by then, but Ten Hag said on Wednesday it’s unlikely any will play a part against Lyon.
Who plays for Lyon?
Ex-Premier League players Dejan Lovren and Alexandre Lacazette are the more recognisable names in the Lyon squad, along with the likes of Portugal goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, ex-Bayern Munich star Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico, who was part of the Argentinian World Cup winning-team last year. The French club are also managed by former United defender Laurent Blanc.
