The future of Erik ten Hag is set to be decided , with his assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy favoured to arrive as caretaker if a change is made

Manchester United assistant boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly on standby to step into Erik ten Hag’s managerial shoes on a temporary basis should a change be made at Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.

The outlet reports the United hierarchy are set to hold crunch talks over Ten Hag’s future as they decide whether the former Ajax boss is still the man to lead the club forward after a lacklustre start to the new season. The meeting, which is a regularly pre-planned diary event, will feature insight from newly-appointed chief executive Omar Berrada, new sporting director Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox, the technical director.

Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to answer whether he believed Ten Hag was the man to lead the club forward and claims that he has left the decision entirely in the hands of the new management team, which were largely assembled over the summer. Van Nistelrooy only arrived as Ten Hag’s assistant at Old Trafford in July and was hired to replace Steve McLaren shortly before his return to management with the Jamaican national team.

The 48-year-old, who enjoyed an incredible playing career at Manchester United between 2001 to 2006, has only ever had one job in management which came at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 season. But how does his win record with the Eredivisie giants compare to every Manchester United manager of the post Alex Ferguson era? Here’s all you need to know.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s managerial record

Ruud Van Nisterooy retired from football in 2012 and garnered a decade of experience as a youth team coach at PSV Eindhoven before stepping into the managerial hot seat for the first time in May 2022.
