Manchester United are not being drawn on the disagreement between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho, after the player publicly called out his manager on social media.

Ten Hag claimed after Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal that Sancho wasn’t selected in the matchday squad due to his performances in training last week, a view the ex-Borussia Dortmund man does not share. Sancho posted on social media after Ten Hag’s comments and said he had been made a ‘scapegoat' by the manager.

“Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue,” he wrote on Twitter. “I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!”

On Monday, United were not commenting about the saga and are continuing to back Ten Hag’s stance.

Meanwhile, according to ESPN, Ten Hag learned of Sancho’s statement on the way back to Manchester on Sunday night, but opted against making any further comment. The Guardian also reported that ‘tensions have been building between Ten Hag and Sancho’, with the United boss not impressed by the winger’s performances in training over a number of weeks.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano also gave his view on the matter and claimed that tensions have been growing for ‘two or three weeks’.

"It's something that those close to Manchester United know very well because Erik ten Hag, and not just Erik ten Hag but the people among his staff, were not so happy with the level of training of Jadon Sancho. They were expecting something different,” said the Italian, on his YouTube channel.

“But it's also true that Jadon Sancho's position is very clear. He believes there is something else not related to his training performances and this is why he was not selected for the game against Arsenal. He didn't want to mention [what that reason is], as he said in the public statement, but the situation looks tense between Ten Hag and Sancho.

"Of course now it is expected that there will be a direct, face-to-face discussion between Ten Hag and Sancho to clarify the issue this week."
