‘Completely untrue’ - Man Utd’s Jadon Sancho hits back at Erik ten Hag in social media post

Jadon Sancho has publicly disagreed with Erik ten Hag in a remarkable social media post.

The Manchester United winger was a shock omission from Sunday’s squad for the Premier League encounter against Arsenal, which the Red Devils lost 3-1 at the Emirates. Speaking after the match, Ten Hag said the ex-Borussia Dortmund star was not included in the travelling party due to his poor performances in training this week.

“Jadon, on his performance in training, we didn't select him,” the United boss said in his post-match press conference. "You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and you have to make choices in the frontline. For this game he wasn't selected."

But posting shortly after on social media, Sancho disputed Ten Hag’s assessment and claimed he has been made a ‘scapegoat’ by the Dutchman. “Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue,” he wrote on Twitter.

"I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

"I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!"

The statement will not go down well with Ten Hag, a strict disciplinarian who has dealt firmly with issues relating to Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo in the last year.

Last season, Ten Hag also supported Sancho during a period when he was described as 'not mentally ready' to represent United. The 23-year-old didn't play between October to February as a result, but since his return to the team had missed just one league match, prior to Sunday.

In his absence, the Red Devils were beaten by two injury-time goals at the Emirates, with Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus on target for the Gunners, just minutes after Alejandro Garnacho thought he'd won the game, only for his goal to be ruled offside after a VAR check. Rashford and Martin Odegaard had previously netted in the first half.
