Manchester United star told Celtic move 'makes sense' after Fabrizio Romano update
A Manchester United star could make the jump the the Scottish Premiership.
Christian Eriksen is ‘expected’ to leave Manchester United in the summer. His current contract is due to expire in June of 2025 and with no new deal on the horizon, he will become a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 season as things stand.
This was recently reported by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who wrote: “Manchester United and Christian Eriksen are still expected to part ways at the end of the season. No negotiations taking place over new deal, while Rúben Amorim’s opinion will also be considered - but Eriksen’s expected to leave.”
Former Red Devil Paul Parker thinks that a move to one club in particular ‘makes sense’ and it is none other than reigning Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. Not only will Eriksen be able to connect with international compatriot Kasper Schmeichel, there will also be no language barrier. Despite this, Parker believes that Eriksen could play at a higher level than the Scottish Premiership, despite his advanced age. Eriksen is now 32 years of age - by the time his contract expires at Old Trafford, he will be 33. As such, his prime years are well behind him - but Parker still thinks he has a lot to offer.
Should Eriksen join Celtic in the summer, Parker believes he will be the ‘biggest star in the league’. There is some stern competition for this mantle - established names such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Cameron Carter-Vickers and James Tavernier all ply their trade in the highest tier of Scottish football. Brendan Rodgers is thought to be an admirer of Eriksen, having targeted him while manager of Liverpool.
Speaking with Danish outlet SpilXperten, Parker mused: “Eriksen to Celtic makes sense. Brendan Rodgers knows him from the Premier League, and he knows [Celtic goalkeeper Kasper] Schmeichel from the national team through many years. Language won’t be an issue either, so it seems like an obvious move. I still believe Eriksen has the level for more than the Scottish league, but that’s no criticism of Celtic.
“It’s a big club, and Eriksen can cap off a fantastic career with a great experience at Celtic, where the entire city revolves around football. All eyes will be on him, as he’ll be the biggest star in the league. He’s one of the best players of the modern era in the Premier League, so he must also be ready for the considerable pressure that comes with that.
“But he’s a very calm guy, so I actually think he’ll handle that just fine. I hope so, too, because he’s such a thoroughly likable and professional person. He deserves a dignified end to his career.”
Over the course of his professional career in football, Eriksen has played for clubs such as Ajax, Inter Milan and Brentford - he is best known for his time at Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 226 Premier League appearances and scored 51 goals. He has also been a mainstay of the Danish national team since 2010, winning 140 caps for his country and scoring 43 goals on the international stage.
