‘I could not leave now’ - Why Pep Guardiola decided to remain with Man City
The Manchester City manager signed a new deal to 2027 this week.
Pep Guardiola has revealed he ‘could not leave now’ following the news that he has decided to remain as Manchester City manager.

The Catalan’s new deal was confirmed on Thursday following months of speculation about his future. Reports in the summer indicated that he was likely to leave at the end of the season when his contract expired. Instead, Guardiola has penned an extension that runs to 2027.
Speaking after the news was announced, the 53-year-old said there were several factors in his decision making, including the motivation that still exists among the squad and the desire to win more silverware.
“Since the beginning of the season I’ve been thinking a lot,” Guardiola told City’s website. “I want to be honest, I thought this [season] should be the last one.
“But the problems we had in the last month, I felt now was not the right time to leave. I didn’t want to let the club down. I felt I could not leave now, simple as that. Don’t ask me the reason why. Maybe the four defeats was the reason why I felt I cannot leave.
“Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here – we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.
“It has always been an honour, a privilege, and a pleasure to be here,” he added. “I’ve said it many times, but I have everything a coach could wish for, and I appreciate it a lot.”
