They follow Tyrell Malacia through the door at Old Trafford, and are Erik ten Hag’s sole signings this window.

Malacia took the No.12 jersey, and after a summer of key departures at United there were several options available for Martinez and Eriksen.

The Argentine has decided to take the No.6 shirt at United, despite wearing 21 at Ajax, a number which could potentially be held for Frenkie de Jong.

Six was last worn by Paul Pogba, who left the club this summer and returned to former side Juventus.

Meanwhile, Eriksen, who sported 8, 23, 24 and 21 at his previous clubs, has opted for a new jersey. He’s taken the No.14 shirt, which was previously held by Jesse Lingard.

Eight was a shirt number that was available earlier in the summer, with departee Juan Mata wearing it in 2021/22, but Bruno Fernandes opted to change from 18 earlier this month and take the No.8, one he occupied at previous club Sporting Lisbon.

To date, that remains the only known number switch from a United player, although the start of the Premier League season next week will coincide with the announcement of the Red Devils’ full list squad list.

The Red Devils begin their campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion on 7 August, which will mark Ten Hag’s first competitive match in charge at Old Trafford.
