Manchester United are reportedly edging towards striking a deal to sign defender Axel Disasi from AS Monaco. The Red Devils are wasting no time as they look to get the ball rolling with their summer recruitment ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

According to a report by French news outlet L’Equipe, the centre-back is ‘close’ to securing a switch to Old Trafford ahead of the upcoming transfer window. The 25-year-old has caught the eye in Ligue 1 over recent times and could be poised to land himself a transfer to England now.

United are in need of some defensive reinforcements as they prepare for their return to the Champions League. Current option Harry Maguire is facing an uncertain long-term future.

Disasi, who is 25-years-old, has played for Monaco since 2020 and has established himself as one of their most prized assets. However, it appears that they will face a battle to keep hold of him over the next couple of months despite him being under contract until 2025.

The France international has made 129 appearances for his current club and has chipped in with 12 goals and four assists from the back. He has also shown his ability to play at right-back if needed which makes him a versatile proposition to potential suitors which is useful.

He started his career at local sides Villiers-le-Bel JS and USM Senlis before linking up with Paris FC in 2014. The Gonesse-born man was then a regular for them at various youth levels before breaking into their first-team as a youngster.

Disasi was then snapped up by Stade de Reims in 2016 and spent four years at the Stade Auguste-Delaune before Monaco came calling. United are being linked now and a big move could be on the cards for him.
