Ipswich Town close in on deals

Newly promoted Ipswich Town are pushing the boat out as they look to battle it out with top flight sides like United and City next term. According to The Athletic, they are poised to sign Liam Delap from the latter on a permanent basis ahead of Southampton.

Former Red Devils coach Kieran McKenna has identified the England youth international as someone to bolster his attacking options.

Delap, 21, spent last season on loan at Hull City and scored eight goals in 32 games, having previoulsly had spells away from the Etihad Stadium at Stoke City and Preston North End to gain experience.

He has been with City since 2019 after joining them from Derby County and is now expected to head out the exit door full-time.

Chelsea agree deal

Chelsea have ‘agreed’ a deal to sign Atlanta United left-back Caleb Wiley for a fee of £8.5million, according to BBC Sport.

The 19-year-old is set to pen a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge and is being brought in as one for the future by the London outfit. He will immediately be loaned out to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 to get some experience.

Wiley, 19, is a USA international already despite his tender age and has made two caps for his country to date. He has risen up through the academy of Atlanta United and was initially a regular for their B team.

Wolves star in-demand

HITC Sport claim Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are showing ‘interest’ in Wolves star Joao Gomes along with both United and City. He is a man in-demand in this window and his current club could face a battle to keep hold of him over the course of the next couple of months.

Gomes, who is 23-years-old, moved over to England in January 2023 and has adapted well to life in his new country.

The Brazil international rose up through the ranks at Flamengo and has made 49 outings for Wolves since joining them, finding the net on three occasions.

Their boss Gary O’Neil said last year: “He’s a super talent. There’s that language barrier as well that he works hard on. He’s been very impressive. At his age and his lack of Premier League experience, it’s something that you have to work with him on, but as a starting point with all the qualities he has, he’s at a very, very good level.”
