Defeats from Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid may not have been the ideal way for Erik ten Hag to end Manchester United's time in the USA but there is still plenty of confidence heading into the Premier League season.

The Red Devils will face Lens and Athletic Bilbao in friendlies before the arrival of Wolves to Old Trafford next weekend and there may still be new aces through the door before the Premier League begins.

Here's your Wednesday night round-up of transfer rumours.

Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a one-year deal with experienced defender Jonny Evans.

The 35-year-old was released by Leicester City this summer after the Foxes' relegation from the Premier League and had already signed a short-term deal with the Red Devils that allowed him to take part in pre-season preparations.

Now, the Belfast Telegraph reports that the Premier League winner will put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Old Trafford to become part of the first-team squad. Evans won the league title while at Manchester United in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

While Evans is unlikely to replace Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez in the starting XI, the experienced defender adds cover for a busy fixture schedule and a wise head in the changing room.

Everton won’t let Erik ten Hag capture admired defender

Everton have told Erik ten Hag they won't strike a deal for rising defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Dutchman is said to be an avid fan of the 21-year-old who impressed on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season. Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy labelled Branthwaite a 'great talent' when working with him at PSV and ten Hag clearly sees the centre-back as a future star.

The Toffees are believed to have already rejected a £15 million bid from PSV this summer and Football Transfers report any Red Devils bid will be treated the same way.

That may not deter Manchester United but any sum demanded by Everton is likely to be considered too large to risk for a player very much at the dawn of his career.
