Manchester United are keen to sign another midfielder this summer, with the arrivals of Mason Mount and Andre Onana, plus the imminent transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, mean the club have to sell first.
Funds are limited in the market due to Financial Fair Play limitations and the lack of investment from the neglectful Glazer ownership. Erik ten Hag always knew this would be the situation in the market, hence the need for United to sell players.
Some income has already been generated by the departures of Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga, along with smaller fees for Ethan Laird, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage. United also released a number of players at the end of last season to reduce the wage bill, including Phil Jones and top-earner David de Gea.
Yet it’s still not enough, and Ten Hag will have to shift a number of players this window if United want to bring in a midfielder in the latter weeks of the summer market.
Below, we’ve listed nine players United could still sell permanently this summer, not including loan moves. We’ve also included three players who have been linked with departures but look set to remain at Old Trafford in 2023/24.
1. Dean Henderson- Sell
Nottingham Forest are still keen on the goalkeeper even if talks have stalled in recent weeks, and the Reds have been linked with Arsenal’s Matt Turner. Either way, Ten Hag is keen to move Henderson on.
2. Nathan Bishop- Sell
Pictures of the 23-year-old have already been leaked of him signing for Sunderland, and this deal should be wrapped up imminently.
3. Victor Lindelof- Stay
Ten Hag had been open to the possibility of the Swede leaving this summer, but Lindelof’s impressive performances in the latter stage of last season changed the manager’s mind, along with the fact United don’t have the resources to strengthen at the back.
4. Eric Bailly- Sell
There’s reported interest from Saudi Arabia in the defender, who wasn’t part of the US pre-season tour. Bailly won’t be a United player by the end of the summer, it’s just a case of United finding the right buyer.
