The future of Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund is uncertain after what has been a poor season for the Danish international.

Man United will hope to end the season on a high in the Europa League as they face a quarter-final second leg against Lyon on Thursday night. They are tied at 1-1 after the first leg in France.

Ruben Amorim is under considerable pressure after a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at the weekend and will hope that United will stick with him this summer and allow him to overhaul his current squad.

One position that will need addressing is the striker spot as both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have combined for just six Premier League goals, they both have uncertain futures.

Man United make transfer decision on Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund has had a poor season for Man United this year, scoring just eight goals in 43 games. He signed for the Red Devils in 2023 for £72m, and has not yet lived up to the hefty price tag. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled for form. The Dutchman has scored six times in 48 games this season since he joined from Bologna in the summer transfer window.

GiveMeSport have issued a report which says that Ruben Amorim has made a U-turn on the future of the pair as it previously was more likely that United would sell Zirkzee this summer due to the potential that 22-year-old Hojlund had.

However, they report that United are now poised to keep Zirkzee and sell Hojlund as he hasn’t lived up their hefty price tag, and they are reportedly open to cashing in on him, as his development has not gone as planned.

The report says that the higher-ups at United are prepared to give Zirkzee more time as they think that he will develop into a player who can fit into Amorim’s system better moving forward.

Hojlund has been linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli with reports last week suggesting that the Red Devils could negotiate some form of swap deal with Napoli to sell Hojlund and bring in Victor Osimhen who looks set for a transfer this summer.

Who else could United replace Hojlund with?

If Man United do decide to sell Hojlund, they will likely draw up a list of candidates to replace the Danish international, and they have already been linked to several names.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has emerged as a transfer target for United. He is also linked to Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham and will have a £30m release clause if the Tractor Boys are relegated at the end of the season.

Other than Osimhen and Delap, United have also been linked with Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has scored 14 goals in 37 games for the Serie A side this season, he is expected to command a fee of around £43m.

Interest in Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres seems to have cooled as Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to sign the Swedish attacker despite his links to Ruben Amorim.
