Man United are reportedly in talks about signing Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, who was also previously linked to Arsenal

Man United are set to prioritise adding attackers in the summer transfer window, after they have seen a season with really poor scoring form. They are the fifth-lowest scoring team in the Premier League.

Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha has emerged as a target for the Red Devils, and reports this week have said that United are in talks over a deal for the 25-year-old, who has scored 14 Premier League goals this season for Wolves.

Any deal between the two clubs would be expected to be around the £63m mark, as he has a £62.5m release clause in the contract extension that he signed at Molineux in January after speculation of a move to Arsenal. But who else should United sign if they manage to land a deal for Cunha?

United should sign a striker to play in front of Cunha

Seeing as the Brazilian isn’t an out-and-out number nine, Ruben Amorim would likely play him in one of the number 10 roles that he plays behind and wide of a main striker. If that is the case, then United will need to also bring in a number nine. Liam Delap from Ipswich Town has emerged as a target for United in recent weeks as he will have a £30m release clause assuming that the Tractor Boys are relegated, meaning United could sign him fairly cheap.

He would cost a lot less than the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen or Benjamin Sesko, and has already proven that he is capable of scoring goals in the Premier League - for a team that have struggled this season. Delap has netted 12 goals in the league for Ipswich, and has shown himself to be one of the most promising and talented goal scorers in the division. If United splash the £63m on Cunha, Delap would be ideal, considering his relatively low price.

Reinforcements at the back are needed

With Cunha and Delap up front, United will also need to ensure that they bring a couple of names in to sure up their defence too, as they have been leaky at times this season. Firstly, they look set to sell Andre Onana, with interest from the Saudi Pro League. He has been mistake-prone this season, and the Red Devils will need a new keeper for next year.

Porto’s Diogo Costa looks to be their number one target, he is expected to command an asking price of around £50m, which is hefty, however, the Portugal international is worth it. He has a superb penalty-saving record, stopping 12 of 45 in his career.

Furthermore, United should also sign Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, as they need players who can play in the wide roles in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation. Frimpong has previously been linked to United, and he could be on the move this summer.

He plays as a pacey wide full-back, and has, according to Liverpool.com, attracted interest from the Reds, as a future replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, should the Englishman leave for Real Madrid in the summer.

The Dutchman has made 30 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing five assists. He is expected to cost around £33.5 million, due to a release clause in his contract - a bargain for a natural wing back, who would suit Amorim’s system.
