Man United and Chelsea are both reportedly willing to pay £20m for the winger.

Man United are set to add attacking talent in the summer transfer window as they aim to improve their goal-scoring record after a season of mediocrity up front.

The Red Devils lost 4-1 to Newcastle in their last game after scoring one goal from the nine shots that they had at St James’ Park. They’ll hope to keep their hopes of winning silverware alive this season in the Europa League.

Ruben Amorim is likely to address their poor scoring form by signing several attackers in the summer transfer window, with one name being linked over a move from Ligue 1 to Old Trafford.

Man United learn Cherki’s asking price

Lyon attacker Rayan Cherki is one player who has recently been linked with a move to Man United as he is becoming one of the most promising attackers in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old has made 38 appearances this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 18 assists for Lyon, he scored the French side’s late equaliser in the Europa League quarter-final against United last week.

They are reportedly keen to sign Cherki in the summer transfer window and have now learnt his price according to Spanish outlet Fichajes alongside Chelsea who are also reportedly interested.

They report that both United and Chelsea are willing to bid on Cherki this summer with a price of £20m touted to be the figure that could tempt Lyon to sell which could be a bargain.

To sign a 21-year-old who has 27 goal involvements for a big European club is somewhat of a bargain, but seeing as Lyon is currently in a precarious financial position, they might decide to cash in on the Frenchman.

Cherki could replace Garnacho

In recent weeks, reports have suggested that Serie A side Napoli have offered Man United £67m to sign winger Alejandro Garnacho, who could be sold to help United with their position regarding Profit and Sustainability rules.

Garnacho would generate ‘pure profit’ for United as he is an academy product and he has struggled to find consistent form this season under Amorim. Reports have suggested that he could be sold as part of a mass exodus at Old Trafford this summer.

If Garnacho is sold, then Cherki could be a cheaper replacement for the Argentina international. Assuming the reported fees are met, then United could replace Garnacho with Cherki and generate a profit of £47m in the meantime, which would help alleviate United’s PSR concerns.

Cherki can play as a winger and an attacking midfielder meaning that he would fit perfectly into Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation as one of the attackers behind the striker playing as a ‘wide number 10’ who can both create and score goals alongside Bruno Fernandes on the other side.
