There was transfer interest in the attacker in the January transfer window, but United opted to keep him.

Manchester United are due for a big squad reshuffle this summer as they aim to build a squad capable of succeeding in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford.

It hasn’t be a good first season for the Portuguese manager, as United are set for their lowest points tally in Premier League history, but he is expected to be backed in the transfer market.

However, if United are able to make signings for the manager, they will need to sell players in order to generate funds and stay within the restrictions with regards to Profit and Sustainability Rules. They may have to sell academy graduates to generate ‘pure profit’.

Man United drop asking price for Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho has struggled to find form this season consistently, even though he is the third-highest goal scorer in Amorim’s team this season. He has made 49 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists.

Serie A side Napoli showed a lot of interest in him during the January transfer window alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea. However, no bid was officially made for the 20-year-old winger.

Reports suggested earlier in April that Napoli had offered Man United £67m to sign Garnacho this summer, but this was never confirmed as a concrete bid. However, it has now emerged that United have dropped their asking price for the Argentine.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb reports that United previously wanted €60m for Garnacho, which works out at £51m. However, they say that the Red Devils are willing to sell the winger and are now prepared to drop his asking price to €45m (£38.5m).

Napoli reportedly wants to pay this fee in order to sign Garnacho as a long-term replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who they sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £59m in the January transfer window.

Antonio Conte is reportedly very keen to sign Garnacho, and he is one of several players who they view as a replacement for Kvaratskhelia. The others named by the Italian media are Lille winger Edon Zhegrova and Feyenoord youngster Igor Paixao.

Garnacho found himself out of favour at United in December but has since forced his way back into Amorim’s plans. Speaking at the end of January, Amorim detailed how Garnacho had improved. He said: "The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him, I just want to win games. He changed in everything, the approach when I talk with him, the way he recovers.

“He understands sometimes that I'm a different coach, that I'm demanding in my way, sometimes it's hard the first impact. It's a different kind of coach and he understands that it's never in a bad way, it's always for him, but I'm a different person. I think all the merit is from Garnacho and he is improving, and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho. I think he's improving a lot."

Napoli also keen on Man United striker

Garnacho isn’t the only Red Devils player who has reportedly attracted the interest of Antonio Conte as Rasmus Hojlund has also been strongly linked with a move to the Serie A side.

United are reportedly willing to sell Hojlund this summer after he has failed to live up to the £72m transfer fee that the Red Devils paid for him in the 2023 summer transfer window.

With Napoli all but certain to sell Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal this summer, they view Hojlund as a potential replacement for the Nigerian. Man United do hold a reported interest in Osimhen, and so could negotiate a swap deal with Hojlund moving to Naples in exchange.

However, Osimhen is also reportedly wanted by Chelsea, who are looking to sign another striker this summer to challenge with Nicolas Jackson for the starting XI spot in Enzo Maresca’s side.
