Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell has blasted three Manchester United players over their physicality following last Sunday’s match.

Campbell, who made over 200 appearances for the Gunners between 1988 and 1995, singled out Scott McTominay, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane for their actions during the fixture.

In particular, the Scottish midfielder was booked for a challenge on the Brazilian striker which the 52 year old has described as being like “something out of WWE” (World Wrestling Entertainment).

Here is what the former pro had to say about the United trio and their treatment of Jesus during the match:

“The treatment of Jesus was serious” - Campbell blasts Man Utd players

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell singled out Scott McTominay, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane for their treatment of Jesus during the match.

“The Man United players were getting physical,” the ex-Gunner said.

“You could see that from the first challenge Martinez put in on Gabriel Jesus.

“I have never seen Varane be that physical with a striker. He had Jesus in a headlock at one stage.

“Do not get me wrong. Jesus is physical with them as well. He is very good at using his body. He is strong and quick.

“McTominay was in and around Jesus as well. He got booked for something out of WWE.

“The treatment of Jesus was serious. It was only a matter of time before Jesus lost his head.”

Although McTominay was booked for a challenge on the Brazilian striker, both Varane and Martinez went through the full match without being carded - suggesting that referee Paul Tierney did not believe their actions to be as serious as Campbell might be suggesting.

The Scottish midfielder and French centre back both played the full match at Old Trafford while the Argentine defender, a summer signing who followed new United head coach Erik ten Hag to the club from Ajax, was subbed off in the 80th minute and replaced by Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils are back in action on Thursday night when they kick off their Europa League campaign at home to Real Sociedad with their next Premier League fixture coming on Sunday as they travel to Crystal Palace.
