United signed Eriksen early in the summer window on a free transfer after he left Premier League rivals Brentford following a short spell at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Here is what the often outspoken pundit had to say about the Dane and his performances for the Old Trafford side so far this season:

“He’s a wonderful passer of the ball” - Murphy on Eriksen

Speaking to TalkSport, Murphy said: “What I said was that he wouldn’t be in their first XI if Fernandes would play.

“I think he has proven me wrong with his contributions from a deeper area. He’s a wonderful passer of the ball.”

However, it wasn’t all praise for the Red Devils and the 45-year old former England international was also quick to point out he still was convinced that United could mount a credible challenge for any silverware this season.

“I’ve never disliked Eriksen,” he continued.

“I’ve never said that. He’s a super player technically. I just don’t think any team can have two players in a midfield three who aren’t defensively minded and win something.

“You can talk about City when they’ve had the likes of Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne, but their work ethic is better than the two I’ve mentioned.

“Also they’ve got one of the best defensive midfield players in Europe, which United arguably have.

“Eriksen is not doing anything I didn’t think he could do. He sees all the pictures, has two great feet, can pass from anywhere.

“I am still convinced that if Eriksen and Fernandes play in the same team consistently, against the top teams, they will struggle to win anything.”
