Manchester United held rivals Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

Manchester United thwarted Liverpool's chances of returning to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday with a 0-0 draw at Anfield. The Red Devils struggled to make much happen going forward but their defence put in a strong shift to deny Jurgen Klopp's side, who were also not at their best.

Liverpool were extremely wasteful with their 34 shots throughout the game, but United managed just six chances and one shot on target, highlighting their troubles in attack. Rasmus Højlund particularly struggled as his Premier League drought continues.

The Dane had very limited chances to make much happen in front of goal as he didn't see a lot of the ball. However, he has been under criticism lately based on his league portfolio as he is still yet to get off the mark, as he arguably missed United's best chance of the game but was thwarted by Alisson Becker who made a strong save one-on-one in the second half.

The Reds were on the hunt for a natural goalscorer during the summer window, and even had links with Harry Kane before his move to Bayern Munich. Højlund certainly impressed during United's run in Europe with five goals, but his Premier League attempts have left a lot to be desired so far.

Following another match without a goal or assist, Tony Cascarino has weighed in on Højlund's frustrating lack of action in England.

"I can’t believe Rasmus Højlund hasn’t scored a Premier League goal yet. He joined Manchester United for £72 million, has started ten games and it’s almost Christmas," the former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker wrote for The Times.

"He’s only 20 years old and hopefully he turns out to be a good player, but I can’t remember a striker making a start like this to his United career.

"This will sound harsh, but he reminds me of a good Championship centre forward who battles away, fights for everything, not much pace… I’ve seen glimpses of quality but there haven’t been moments when I’ve come away thinking ‘he’ll get 20 goals'. As a manager you can’t wait too long for a striker to come good."

United have one of the lowest goal tallies in the Premier League so far this season. With just 18 on the board, they are way behind the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa, who have all scored 35 or more. Only five teams have scored less goals than United at this point, and three of them are in the relegation zone.

Scott McTominay currently leads the way as this season's top scorer for United in the Premier League. The Scot has five to his name, with Bruno Fernandes behind him on three, and Marcus Rashford with two.
