How much each Premier League position is worth as Manchester United set for £20 million reduction

Man Utd are set for their lowest finish of the Premier League era and a big financial hit as a result of it.

Manchester United could lose as much as £20 million in prize money with the club on course for their lowest finish of the Premier League era. United set the bar low when they finished eighth-place in the league last season, but have managed to limbo even lower with the club currently 15th in the division with just 12 matches left to play.

Ruben Amorim has been unable to steady the ship and United have only won four league matches since he took charge in November, with just two of those coming in home matches. Since he took charge, only Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich have accumulated fewer points than them in the Premier League.

It has been revealed United have calculated their new financial outlook on being a Europa League club for the next four seasons, but they are set to make another heavy loss in revenue with their lowest-ever Premier League finish.

Manchester United set for £20 million reduction

Manchester United are currently faced with the possibility of a £20 million reduction in Premier League prize money this season. Each position in the Premier League table is worth roughly £3 million in estimated income from the current broadcast deal, which could represent a huge reduction for United.

Last season, they earned roughly £36 million from their eighth-place finish in the English top flight but would bag just £15 million if they finish in their current position of 15th. It highlights just how important it is for United to begin to climb the table, even if they are unlikely to achieve a top-half place by the end of the campaign.

It seems unlikely they will finish anywhere lower than 16th due to their eight-point advantage over Wolves, but they are nine points behind Fulham in 10th. It would only take a four-point swing to rise to 12th in the table, which could earn them roughly £9 million in additional prize money than they are currently forecasted to get.

Manchester United announce more job cuts

Manchester United have confirmed a further 200 members of staff could be made redundant in the latest round of cost-cutting measures after they reduced their workforce by almost a quarter last year. During the last redundancy period, 250 staff lost their jobs and they expect approximately 150-200 further jobs may be cut this year.

The club held a staff meeting on Monday to announce the plans to solve their financial issues after the club posted five consecutive years of losses since 2019. United claim these cuts will create a more solid financial platform to invest in men’s and women’s football success and improved infrastructure.

United have lost £300million in the past three years and Jim Ratcliffe is intent on reducing costs to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.
