Harry Maguire and five others to leave Manchester United next summer as things stand
Manchester United have the chance to make some tweaks to their squad this winter.
Manchester United have the opportunity to bolster their ranks with some additions. They could also look to let some players head out the exit door next month to help free up space and funds for reinforcements.
The Red Devils have a few individuals who are out of contract at the end of the season. Here is a look at the different situations....
Amad Diallo
The winger’s current deal expires in June 2025 but United have an option to extend it by 12 months beyond that meaning essentially he is tied down until 2026. He has enjoyed plenty of game time over recent times and has a bright future ahead of him. Amad moved to England in 2021 from Atalanta and was loaned out to Rangers and Sunderland to get some experience under his belt. He has made 47 appearances for the Red Devils to date and has scored eight goals, five of which have come this season.
Harry Maguire
United have a big decision to make regarding the long-term future of the centre-back. They risk losing him for nothing next year if nothing changes. The former Sheffield United, Hull City and Leicester City man joined back in 2019 and he has played 221 games altogether. He injects experience into the squad but it remains to be seen whether he will still be around in the next campaign.
Speaking last summer, he said: “Everything I have heard and the action I have been shown from the club is that I’m part of the future and it’s time to crack on, and try and make this club successful again and challenge for the big trophies, because that’s what it demands.”
Victor Lindelof
The defender has had his injury issues recently and the Red Devils need to weigh up whether to keep him or let him go. He was snapped up back in 2017 and has been a decent servant. Prior to his move, he spent five years playing in Portugal for Benfica.
Jonny Evans
United re-signed Evans back in 2023 and he has had more game time than many expected over the past couple of terms. Like Maguire and Lindelof, he is a useful person to have in and around the dressing room and is a vastly experienced operator. At the age of 36 though, it is yet to be known how many years he has left in his legs.
Christian Eriksen
The former Tottenham Hotspur man rocked up at Old Trafford in 2022 following a stint at Brentford. He has since found the net on seven occasions in 88 outings and has provided more competition and depth in midfield. The Denmark international has made 140 caps for his country and he will be considering his options as he reaches a crucial point.
Tom Heaton
He has provided back-up to United’s goalkeeping department behind Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. The 38-year-old started his career with the Red Devils before going on to have spells at Cardiff City, Bristol City and Burnley before moving back.
