'I'd expect' - Fabrizio Romano issues update on two Manchester United summer transfers
Man Utd are preparing for the summer transfer window and here is the latest news.
Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on two potential summer transfers for Manchester United as they prepare for a major rebuild under head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese head coach will be allowed to mould the first team squad into his vision this summer, though their transfer plans will be dictated by their run in the Europa League.
It is understood United have budgeted for next season with the expectation they will not have European football, though the picture could change if they win the Europa League and earn Champions League qualification. Doing so would not only make United a more attractive prospect to join this summer, but it would also greatly boost their finances.
Player sales are also expected to play a key role in United's summer plans, and their budget could be significantly increased if they manage to sell the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Casemiro.
Fabrizio Romano issues update on double deal
Manchester United play a key role in Fabrizio Romano's latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter with updates on two potential summer transfers.
The hottest topic is the goalkeeper situation, with head coach Ruben Amorim keen to overhaul the department. It is understood he has reservations about both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, but might not be able to address them this summer, given there are more pressing issues to solve elsewhere.
Onana was rested for the heavy defeat to Newcastle at the weekend, though deputy Altay Bayindir did not cover himself in any glory with a poor performance on what was his first Premier League appearance for the club. With veteran Tom Heaton likely to retire this summer, the only hope of signing another top goalkeeper could rely on finding a buyer for Onana. "It depends on what happens with Onana. If he ends up leaving the club, yes, and I’d expect a young talented GK in that case," Romao wrote in his newsletter.
The other update saw Romano name United as one of the two frontrunners to sign Ipswich Town star Liam Delap this summer. It is understood United have made the 22-year-old their preferred striker option, though they face intense competition for his signature.
Delap will be available for just £30 million if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League, which makes him an even more appealing option for a United side that is in a tight financial situation. Asked if any club are leading the race to sign him this summer, Romano added: "It’s between Man United and Chelsea now, both keen on signing the player. They’re ahead of Bundesliga clubs."
