Christian Eriksen has already explained why Manchester United may be at a disadvantage in a reported bid to land him.

Eriksen has been linked with a move away from Brentford this summer after a short spell with the London club.

The former Spurs star signed a contract until the end of this season after joining in the spring, and he has control over his future heading into this summer.

After an impressive spell with Brentford, assisting four and scoring once in 11 Premier League outings, a number of clubs are now being linked.

Eriksen appears to have made a strong recovery from his heart issue that saw him collapse during Euro 2020.

And recognising that, and indeed his special talent, the likes of Tottenham and United are being linked.

In United’s case, Eriksen could be a great coup for Erik ten Hag, as he looks to add more creativity to his midfield, which already includes Bruno Fernandes.

But it seems Tottenham will have the advantage, and not just because the midfielder spent seven years in north London previously.

That’s because Eriksen appears to have a particular desire to play in the Champions League again, if he can help it.

“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision,” he said back in March.

“I would love to play Champions League football again, I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”

That ‘isn’t essential’ line will give United some hope, but given his connections with Tottenham and the fact Antonio Conte’s men are already qualified for next season’s edition of the Champions League, it’s clear United are at a disadvantage.
