Erik ten Hag sends Manuel Ugarte warning as Manchester United make eight line up changes

Manchester United have made eight changes for their Carabao Cup third round clash with Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Erik ten Hag has heavily rotated the side that defeated Southampton at the weekend, with Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer both making their full debuts for the club. Antony has also been handed a start while Altay Bayindir is only playing his second competitive match since joining a year ago.

United will be hopeful of extending their winning run in the match as they look to get their season back on track after a difficult start to the campaign.

Speaking ahead of the match, Ten Hag explained his line up and why he chose to put Casemiro back in as captain. "We have to rotate, we have loads of games," he told Sky Sports. "You need to manage the squad, you need everyone, you can't talk about start 11 players, you have to give all players game time if they are available."

"We know what he can deliver. He is a brilliant player and we expect this from him. He is very experienced, you have to deal with negativity, everyone from Manchester United gets that experience and you have to stick together."

Ugarte makes his first start after he featured from the bench in the weekend win over Southampton, but Ten Hag has warned it will take time for him to get up to speed with his new surroundings.

He added: "We want to integrate him as soon as possible in the team, it takes time. We know the patterns, but we only had one training with him, two partial. What can you expect? Now we put him straight on and we will see. It has to progress, it has to develop, we have to give him some time and for his teammates to get used to him."
