Erik ten Hag has revealed that Casemiro is facing a 'race against the clock' to be fit in time for Sunday's Manchester derby.

The Manchester United midfielder missed last weekend's trip to Sheffield United due to an injury he sustained during the latest international break, and was suspended for the Champions League win over Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

Casemiro has been back in training since Monday and it was presumed he would be fit to face Manchester City this weekend. However, speaking ahead of the derby, the United boss revealed the ex-Real Madrid man has not full recovered from his knock.

"Casa is a race against the clock," Ten Hag said. "[He's] not 100 percent."

However, there was better news regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and it was reported during the week that the full-back is back in training. Ten Hag confirmed on Friday that is indeed the case, which will be a huge boost for his options at right-back.

At present, Diogo Dalot is the only fit right-back in the squad, while United will also be without the injured Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Amad at the weekend.

Kobbie Mainoo is not expected to play despite returning to competitive action this week with the Under-19s. Jadon Sancho is still not an option for Ten Hag as the winger has been banished to train with the youth team.

Ten Hag also said in his pre-match press conference that United are heading in the right direction after three consecutive wins.

"I think definitely we are back where we wanted to be, this is a hard team to beat and they find a way to win, so we are going in the right direction."
