Donny van de Beek has admitted he ‘probably’ will leave Manchester United this summer.

The 26-year-old is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and the United boss is willing to let Van de Beek leave this window, despite their previous relationship at Ajax. The midfielder moved to Old Trafford three years ago, but has managed just 60 appearances in that time.

Van de Beek was restricted to playing just 10 matches last season for United, due mainly to injury, and a long-term problem picked up in early January against Bournemouth curtailed his campaign. But the former Ajax man returned to the team on Wednesday, playing 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly win over Lyon.

Van de Beek scored the only goal of the game, as he side-foot volleyed past Anthony Lopes less than four minutes after his half-time introduction. But speaking after the match, United’s no.34 admitted it may have been one of his last appearances for the club.

“For now it is hard to say where my future is,” Van de Beek revealed. “I come back now after injury and I am fit now, I play my first match and train for a few weeks.

“I try to push as hard as possible and anything can happen. It’s hard to say where my future will be, and in football you never know. Let’s see what happens.”

Asked if he could remain at United this summer, Van de Beek replied: “Yes, but it's also a possibility, probably, that I move, so everything is open. It is hard to say where my future is. Now I am focussing on getting as fit as possible and pushing on.”

Van de Beek was also named in United's 31-man travelling squad to the USA on Wednesday. The Dutchman was one of six senior central midfielders including, alongside Casemiro, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes, with Fred expected to join up the squad at a later date.

But there were also three talented youngsters named in the group, in Dan Gore, Hannibal, Kobbie Mainoo, highlighting the competition for places in the middle of the park, and why Ten Hag is willing to let the underperforming Van de Beek depart this summer.
