Diogo Dalot has hailed Scott McTominay’s mentality after Manchester United snatched a late winner against Aston Villa.

With the game appearing destined for a draw, the Red Devils snatched all three points at the death. Dalot whipped a vicious ball toward goal and McTominay headed home to send the away end into raptures.

That was not the first time the Scotland international has come to the rescue for United. Notable wins over Brentford and Chelsea also came once McTominay moved further forward - a tactic deployed by Erik ten Hag as a plan B.

Bizarrely, the 27-year-old’s seven strikes places him top of the club’s Premier League goalscoring charts for 2023-24. McTominay is enjoying his finest campaign to date at United and Dalot has described him as the “perfect person” for teammates to emulate.

Speaking post-match, the right-back - who received praise from Gary Neville in the studio - also outlined his desire to get more assists. Dalot only has three to his name in 32 games across all competitions this season.

“I think I have the ability to do it (get more assists),” he said post-match. “I still think I can get even more, so hopefully in the future, yeah. Every time he (McTominay) comes on the pitch, he has that mentality of trying to score goals and trying to help the team.

“We need this type of mentality at this club - and I think he is the perfect person to show this season that, even coming from the bench, he always has a good impact."
