Manchester United have revealed they have 'dealt with' Marcus Rashford following last week's exploits in Belfast.

The 26-year-old missed training on Friday following a brief trip to Northern Ireland, with Rashford travelling for the announcement of Ro-Shaun Williams' transfer to Larne the day before.

It has subsequently emerged that Rashford had enjoyed nights out in Belfast, with the United star attending Lavery's and Thompson's Garage on Wednesday, while he returned to the latter the following night. Rashford then failed to turn up to training on Friday, with Erik ten Hag initially citing illness as the reason for his absence.

ManchesterWorld understands Rashford misled the club about his whereabouts and claimed he flew back to Manchester on Thursday. The England international was then left out of Sunday's squad for the trip to Newport County, with Ten Hag claiming it was an 'internal matter'.

But United provided an update on Monday via a brief statement: "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed."

Rashford is back in training and is available for United's trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday. Ironically, Rashford was dropped for this fixture last season after sleeping in and being late for a meeting, while earlier this season Ten Hag claimed his decision to attend a Manchester nightclub hours after United's defeat to Manchester City as 'unacceptable'.

United have not commented on whether Rashford has been fined or punished in any way following his latest misdemeanour.

It's the latest in a series of off-field issues that Ten Hag has been forced to deal with since taking over as United manager 18 months ago, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho publicly criticising his decisions.

Meanwhile, former United defender Rio Ferdinand questioned Rashford's actions and said he should be 'leading that team'. "There's a lot of noise around the club. [He is] one of the experienced players now, keep that noise down. That's your duty, you're one of the leaders now," said the former United defender.

In Rashford's absence, United beat Newport County 4-2 in the FA Cup on Sunday and the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Thursday, 18 days after the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last time out.
