Football fans were left in stitches online over the weekend after a clip emerged on Manchester United star Casemiro recognising a lesser-known former pro circulated on social media.

Midfielder Jackson Irvine was on the books at Celtic for three years between 2012 and 2015 but only ever made one competitive appearance for The Hoops as he was sent out on consecutive loan spells.

The 29-year-old ended up making 107 appearances for Hull and now turns out for FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga. He's also a fully-fledged Australia international and featured in the Qatar World Cup last year.

Irvine's encounter with Casemiro took place backstage at the FIFA FIFPRO World 11 event after the suit-sporting Australian posed for a photo with the Red Devils' man.

As Casemiro was leaving the room he did a double take to look back at Irvine. He said: "You play for Australia? I see you."

A chuckling Irvine returned to his seat in disbelief where he was ribbed by colleagues for going bashful and flushed after the interaction. "I'm sweating," he laughed.

Football fans online loved the genuine moment between the two. One said: "Jackson Irvine getting recognised by Casemiro is brilliant."

Another joked: "One of the best midfielders in the world and Casemiro."

Others said "this is gold" and "bang into this" as Irvine was labelled "one of the most likeable footballers around".

The two didn't stay together long enough to elaborate on how they might know each other but it looks to be just fantastic football knowledge from Casemiro.

Irvine has faced Brazil whilst playing for Australia but it was only once in a 2017 friendly when the South American side won 4-1. Casemiro wasn't in the squad for that fixture.

There also doesn't look to be any moment in their club careers where the two crossed paths, which points to Casemiro simply being a big Jackson Irvine fan.
