One of Erik ten Hag’s first jobs as the new Manchester United is to assess which current players he wants to keep and who should move on.
That’s no small task, with the club website listing 40 players in their current first-team squad. While some of those are fringe and youth-team players, it still emphasises how big United’s pool of players is.
Given how disappointing this campaign has been for the Red Devils, there are expected to be plenty of outgoings at Old Trafford, in addition to those who Ten Hag will want to bring into the club.
But who will leave and who will remain at United for the 2022/23 campaign? We’ve cast our eyes over 35 of the squad’s most established players and assessed how likely they are to depart this summer.

17. Juan Mata - Very likely
All but confirmed he was leaving in the final home game of the season. At 34, Mata’s best years are long behind him.

18. Jesse Lingard - Very likely
Should have left last summer, but Lingard’s contract expiring finally gives him the opportunity to play regularly elsewhere.

19. Andreas Pereira - Likely
Will probably leave due to United’s better midfield options, although recent reports suggested Ten Hag would be willing to give Pereira another chance.

20. Amad - Possible
Unclear whether the youngster is ready to hold down a place in the team. Won’t be sold, but another loan is possible.
