Manchester City have just three matches remaining before club football goes on hiatus for the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar this month.

Pep Guardiola’s side face Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium in their final UEFA Champions League group stage match on Wednesday having already secured qualification for the knockout stages. They will play the first leg of their Last 16 match in February 2023 but still need to find out who their opponents will be. That will become clearer once the 16 teams progressing to the next round have been finalised and the draw has been made.

The draw for the last 16 ties in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League will take place on Monday, November 7. The draw will include the eight winners and eight runners-up from the group stages with the teams who finish first seeded for the draw and the teams who finish second unseeded. The draw will take place at 11am (GMT) at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Who could Man City face in the Last 16?

Ahead of the final round of group stage matches, only a few teams have already guaranteed their place in the knockout stages. German champions Bayern Munich and City’s Premier League rivals Chelsea join them as the only three teams guaranteed to go through as group winners, and therefore be seeded for the draw, ahead of the final round of group stage matches being played. Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also through and are guaranteed to be unseeded.

Also through are Liverpool and Napoli, who will face each other at Anfield to determine who tops the group and who finished second. Similar situations apply to Club Brugge, Porto, Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, PSG and Benfica who are all already through with group winners still to be decided. AC Milan and RB Salzburg are the two remaining teams competing for second spot in their group.

Teams from the same country and the same group cannot be drawn together in the Last 16, meaning City will not be drawn against Borussia Dortmund. They also could not be drawn with Liverpool if they are in the unseeded pot or Tottenham Hotspur if they qualify by finishing second.
