'We need to..' - Manchester City dressing room view on new England boss Thomas Tuchel

The latest Manchester City news from the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has welcomed the appointment of former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel as the new England manager.

Tuchel has replaced Gareth Southgate in the hot seat and will take charge officially on January 1, with interim coach Lee Carsley still taking charge for the November internationals.

Walker, an experienced England international and senior member of the current squad, has praised his experience and ability to work with big-name players, with England targeting World Cup success in two years.

Speaking on his BBC podcast ‘You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker’, the full-back said: “I can understand the English public thinking it should be an English manager taking control of the national team. But for me it’s about who is going to get the results, he has proven at big clubs that he can manage big players with big characters, the likes of PSG, he went to Chelsea and won the Champions League against Manchester City, that is one that sticks firmly in my mind.

“It is a great appointment and it is an even better appointment if he puts me in the team again. I think it is a great appointment but the proof is in the pudding, we need to do it as a set of players.”

The 34-year-old Man City defender is on 91 caps and is targeting a century, with Tuchel to take charge on an 18-month deal from January ahead of the World Cup qualification campaign.

Walker added: “We’ll see. That is not me writing myself off but that is me being realistic that your form has to go into it, you can’t just be there because your form has been there in the past. But you need a little bit of experience in the team.”
