The former Manchester City captain is expected to leave Burnley this summer.

Pep Guardiola has said he is delighted that Vincent Kompany is expected to become the next Bayern Munich manager.

The ex-Manchester City defender has emerged as a shock appointment for the German giants, with reports claiming he will replace Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It’s a particularly sweet appointment for Guardiola, who will see his former captain take over at one of his former clubs. The current City boss led the Bavarian club to three successive Bundesliga titles between 2014 and 2016, before his appointment at the Etihad.

But Bayern’s decision is something of a surprise given Burnley suffered relegation under Kompany’s watch this season. According to Guardiola, who last year predicted the Belgian will one day be City manager, said Burnley’s relegation should be an irrelevant point in Bayern’s decision making.

Asked ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final whether he still feels Kompany will manage City one day, Guardiola replied: “Yes. For sure. He will come.

"I'm happy the link has happened for Bayern to Vinny," he added. "I have a huge opinion about Vinny, doesn't matter the relegation with Burnley.

“What I felt playing against him and knowing him, I have the highest opinion of his work, personality, his knowledge of the game, how he handles the media.

"I'd love Bayern to take the best decision. I love that club. I'm in love with Bayern Munich for many many reasons. Hopefully take the best decision. If they believe Vinny is the right decision, for Munich they will have a guy to support unconditionally."
