Man City’s stance on £51m Dani Olmo transfer explained amid Chelsea & Liverpool links

Reports last week suggested Manchester City were set to bid for the Spanish midfielder.

Manchester City are not planning to bid for Dani Olmo, ManchesterWorld understands.

Reports in Italy over the weekend had suggested that the Premier League champions will push to sign Olmo before his €60m (£51m) release clause expires (today) Monday.

However, club sources have indicated to ManchesterWorld that City have no interest in concluding a deal for the talented Spaniard, who has been linked with a host of clubs this summer including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona

Even the nature of Olmo’s release has come into doubt. Fabrizio Romano last week claimed that the £51m fee expires on Monday, before later following up to claim that has been extended to Saturday. “There was this specific factor on the clause due to the Euros, now formally approved,” he wrote on X.

Regardless, City won’t be making a move for a the RB Leipzig man, who Pep Guardiola once labelled a ‘top player’. It follows the pattern of the club’s quiet transfer window with no major incomings so far this summer. Bruno Guimaraes is understood to be a target for City - although, like Olmo, the Blues opted against matching his release clause earlier this window.

It has been solely outgoings for City this summer with Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Lewis Fiorini, Sergio Gomez and Liam Delap departing in transfer worth over a combined £50m.

The club’s stance all summer has been that significant incomings could be dependent on major outgoings. That Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva are still City players has certainly impacted their stance on potential additions to the squad. As for Olmo, who has 148 appearances for RB Leipzig, he only enhanced his reputation at this summer’s Euros. The Spanish midfielder impressed again in Sunday’s final and played 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory over England.

Olmo’s three goals at the tournament saw him share the top scorer award and the 26-year-old played in six of Spain’s seven games en route to winning a fourth European Championships.
