What to expect from Man City summer 2024 transfer window - Guimaraes latest & nine players who could leave

Saturday’s Champions League final marked the last match of 2023/24 season in Europe and, with attention now switching to the international scene, the club game is essentially set to enter a period of hibernation for another month.
But the summer, of course, means the transfer market reopens and for Manchester City there could be more headline-grabbing news following the arrivals of Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish in the last three summer windows.

Indeed, any significant incomings may only be given the go ahead if members of the current first team depart. Unlike many of their Premier League rivals, it could be a relatively quiet transfer window in east Manchester.
Has anything been confirmed already?
The final weeks of May have been quiet for City, although Scott Carson did put pen to paper on a new deal. He had been approaching the summer as the only player out of contract, but has agreed an extension to 2025.
Elsewhere, Southampton’s promotion means City will pocket £20m for the permanent transfer of Taylor Harwood-Bellis - another example of the club’s industry-leading approach to youth-team departures.

Lucas Paqueta had been one of the club’s major transfer targets heading into the summer, but the FA’s betting charges which have been levelled against the West Ham United midfielder mean that deal is off, regardless of whether he’s found guilty or innocent.
Another Brazilian who has captured the attention of City is Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarares. Neither Mateo Kovacic nor Matheus Nunes have proved to be a like-for-like replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who left last summer, and Guimaraes’ controlled approach could provide the long-term solution.
The former Lyon man has a buy-out clause of £100m in his contract which is active for the month of June, but ManchesterWorld understands City are reluctant to match that figure despite their interest.
Finances and complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) aren’t an issue for City following several years of smart sales and a record £712m revenue in 2022/23, but the club are wary of a perception in some quarters that success has been bought, despite net spend for the last five years being less than Newcastle and Aston Villa.

But one player who is set to sign is Savio, with the winger joining from City’s sister club, Troyes. However, the immediate plans remain uncertain for the player, with reports suggesting he’ll be loaned out.
Who could leave Man City this summer?
Like most years, there’s no shortage of interest in members of City’s squad. Ederson and Bernardo Silva look the two high-profile players most likely to move. The latter has been open to a departure for several years and reports have suggested his buy-out clause is as little as £50m this summer.
As for Ederson, he has reportedly attracted interest from Saudi Arabia after a mixed season for City that culminated in him sustaining a broken eye socket. ManchesterWorld understands Stefan Ortega, who has proved a capable back-up, has been in talks about signing a new deal at the Etihad and is expected to remain at City this summer.

Hide AdElsewhere, Jack Grealish has been linked with an exit after a disappointing end to the 2023/24 campaign, while Kevin De Bruyne has publicly admitted he is open to joining a Saudi Arabian Pro League club. ManchesterWorld reported last week that both the player and City are ‘relaxed’ about the situation, with an outcome that suits all parties expected to be reached.
Like in previous years, City’s approach this summer is that if the money is deemed acceptable and the player wants to leave, the club won’t stand in the way.
Other possible exits include Joao Cancelo and Kalvin Phillips, two players who spent the season on loan and are seen as surplus to requirements by Guardiola.
Decisions will also be made on the futures of Joshua Wilson-Esbrand, James McAtee and Maximo Perrone after the youngsters return from year-long loans, while Sergio Gomez would likely be a player City would be willing to move on after he made just four starts this season. Oscar Bobb is expected to remain and not leave either permanently or loan, despite Savio’s arrival.
