Manchester City are set to resume action in the Premier League this weekend as they host Newcastle United. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to narrow the gap on Arsenal after their thrashing of Everton yesterday.

Man City have won three of their last five games and could move within two points of top spot if they can beat the Magpies, while they will also be relying on Bournemouth causing a huge upset at the Emirates Stadium. However, the clash with Newcastle will be far from easy as they look to get back on track after their Carabao Cup final defeat.

John Stones has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since City’s win over Arsenal in the FA Cup, while Aymeric Laporte has missed out on fixtures against RB Leipzig, Bournemouth and Bristol City due to illness. However, the duo could potentially return to the matchday squad for the upcoming game.

Newcastle United could face yet another match without Bruno Guimaraes after he suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury during the Carabao Cup final. Speaking after the Wembley clash, Eddie Howe said: “Bruno twisted his ankle.

“I think he did similar – I can’t remember the game – but not too long ago in a match. He was in a bit of pain. We don’t think it’s serious at the moment, but let’s wait and see.”

The Magpies will also be without another key man in Nick Pope as he serves the second match of his suspension following his sending off against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Emil Krafth remains a long-term absentee after he endured an ACL injury in August.
