‘I love this club’ - Pep Guardiola reiterates Man City commitment amid uncertainty over his future
Amid the ongoing Premier League case, Guardiola said he has complete faith in Manchester City’s directors.
Pep Guardiola has reiterated his love for Manchester City and thanked the fans after a group commissioned a banner saying ‘we want you to stay’ in Catalan.
The design will first be on display at Saturday’s game against Fulham, with fans desperate for the City manager to remain in Manchester.
Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the season and he has avoided answering questions about his long-term plans, with reports suggesting that he is set to walk away in the summer.
Speaking on Friday ahead of the Fulham clash, Guardiola said he would not ‘talk about this subject’ but did offer to front the bill for the Etihad banner, which was paid for by fan donations.
“They have to bring me the bill. I will pay, I don’t want them to spend money for that. What can I say? Thank you so much. I fell in love since the first day I was here. What's going to happen is going to happen,” explained the City boss.
Guardiola, more than any other City manager has felt the need to defend his club this season amid the charges form the Premier League and the 53-year-old recently said City’s rivals want to see the club relegated.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Guardiola’s commitment and devotion to City has not wavered in the slightest.
“I am part of this club. Deep inside my bones, the best way to defend the club is by winning games and do my job as well as possible,” he explained.
“We cannot misunderstand the reason I am here. Of course, I want to defend the club. I trust the owners, especially the chairman and CEOs for many years. I am doing to defend my club because I trust the owner, the chairman and the CEOs for my relationship working here for many years.
“I know them quite well, more than any of you and the people around. The best way to defend is doing our job the best.
“Everyone here has their responsibility. My responsibility is to try hold my players in their hands and try to win the games. There are situations in eight or nine years, that always are there. Some expected, some tough to deal. It is what it is. No complaints and do what you have to do.
“I'm part of this club, not just the manager. I love this club and always will be this way. It cannot be different for the way they treat me from day one. It is impossible. When you give something and they give me a lot, the rest is the consequences. Simple.”
